Turkey provided $369m aid to Gaza in last 10 years

Turkey has provided $369 million aid to Gaza in the last decade, said Turkish consul general in Jerusalem Mustafa Sarnic on Thursday Anadolu Agency reported

"The Palestinian issue is a bleeding wound of humanity and Turkey is doing its best to help," Sarnic told foreign reporters in his office.

In his remarks, the consul general dismissed the data released by the World Bank over Turkey's aid to Gaza did not reflect the truth.

"In 2014, Turkey provided $34.7 million in development assistance to Palestine, mostly to Gaza, and $24.5 million in emergency aid," said Sarnic.

In addition, the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) Coordinator in Palestine, Bulent Korkmaz told Anadolu Agency about the humanitarian assistance provided in Palestine.

"A total of 26 water wells were built to for over 500,000 people to have access to drinking water and a 176-bed Turkish-Palestinian Friendship hospital was built on a 34,000-square meter area," said Korkmaz.

Korkmaz said a physical medicine center, 85 tons of medicine, 46 medical items, 637 tons of diesel oil, and tons of food were also provided.

Israel has maintained a tight blockade of the Gaza Strip since 2007, when Palestinian group Hamas took over control of the territory.
