Tehran, Iran, July 3

By Mehdi Sepahvand – Trend:

Great progress has been made in the nuclear talks, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said.

However, there are different technical and compositional issues and then a political decision to be made, he stated.

He stated that good talks had been held on July 2 and more were to be held with P5+1 foreign ministers, ISNA news agency reported July 3.

The Iranian foreign minister said whether the talks go successfully depends on whether the opposite side intends to arrive at a deal or pressurize Iran.

“Sometimes problems arise in the course of drafting the deal which show that some countries bureaucratically incline toward keeping the sanctions. We need to pass these problems, too. We feel there is the political will, but this political will has not been conveyed to the bureaucratic system,” he stated.

Zarif’s remarks followed IAEA Secretary General Yukiya Amano’s trip to Tehran on July 2.

President Rouhani and Amano discussed topics such as Iran-IAEA relations within the cooperation framework document and how to expedite resolving all issues, including the past nuclear activities of Iran.

Amano’s trip to Tehran was successful and constructive and Iran is willing to cooperate with the IAEA to raise misunderstandings about the PMD, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said July 3.

Negotiators from Iran and the P5+1 group of countries - the United Sated, Britain, China, France, Russia and Germany - are working to reach a comprehensive agreement on the Iranian nuclear program in the Austrian city of Vienna. The two sides have agreed to continue talks to strike a final deal by July 7.
