Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili said he doesn’t intend to create a political force for the 2016 parliamentary election, RIA Novosti said Oct. 6.
Earlier, Georgian media reported that the country’s president can present his political force at the 2016 parliamentary election.
That force, as they said, has all the chances to win the election.
“Population chose the presidential mandate for me, and I don’t think I have to change this mandate,” said Margvelashvili on air the Rustavi 2 on Monday night.
“Therefore, I don’t intend to create a political force for the parliamentary election,” he added. “I have a very stable three-year mandate until 2018.”
Margvelashvili added that he doesn’t plan to leave politics in the future, adding that however, it is too early to say whether he will take part in the next presidential election, or not.
The amendments to Georgia’s constitution, which came into force in October 2013, limit the president’s powers and expand the prerogatives of the prime minister and parliament.
