The Russian foreign ministry recommended its citizens to refrain from trips to Turkey, RIA Novosti reported.
Russian President Vladimir Putin supported this recommendation.
"This is a necessary measure following such tragic events as the destruction of our warplane and the death of the pilot,” the president told reporters. “The ministry is right by warning our citizens about the danger."
“Russian citizens, staying in Turkey, may be exposed to a significant risk,” President Putin added. “The Turkish current leadership supports the Islamization of the country.”
President Putin said that Islam is a great world religion, which is one of the traditional religions in Russia.
The Turkish Air Force shot down the Russian military planes SU-24 in its airspace Nov. 24.
Both pilots managed to eject and the plane crashed on the territory of Syria.
