US President Barack Obama will meet with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday on the sidelines of the climate change summit in Paris, White House National Security Advisor Ben Rhodes said in a briefing, Sputnik reported.

“President Obama will be meeting in a bilateral meeting tomorrow morning with President Erdogan of Turkey,” Rhodes said on Monday.

The White House advisor added that the two leaders will discuss ways to do more to seal off Turkey’s border with Syria.

Obama is also expected to underscore during the meeting the importance of de-escalating tensions between Ankara and Moscow that followed the downing of a Russian military aircraft in Syria.

On November 24, a Turkish F-16 fighter jet shot down a Russian Su-24 bomber over Syrian territory. Ankara claimed that it downed the jet because it had violated Turkish airspace. Both the Russian General Staff and the Syrian Air Defense Command confirmed that the Russian jet never crossed into Turkish airspace.
