About 15 million criminal cases are launched each year in Iran, according to Norollah Ghodrati, attorney general of Iran’s North Khorasan Province.
Local news agency ILNA has quoted Ghodrati as saying that most of those criminal cases are related to finance and debts.
Earlier, another local news agency, IRNA reported that each year about 500,000 Iranian citizens are arrested for various crimes, and some 70 percent of those arrested don’t have constant jobs and suffer from financial problems.
Most of the detainees are illiterate and don’t have a higher education.
