Iranian Energy efficiency Organization (IEEO) has granted several German companies with permissions to build a number of solar power plants with the capacity of producing 1260 megawatt of electricity in the country, an official said.

The head of Tehran Province’s power distribution company, Seyed Ali Barband, said that 300 megawatts of the produced power is expected to be consumed in Tehran.

He added that the required land for constructing the power plants has not been allocated yet and the German companies are discussing the issue with the respective organizations.

According to Barband the Germans will kick of the project for constructing power plants after implementing the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JPOA).

The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), official name for the Iran nuclear deal, was struck on July 14. According to the deal, Iran is to be freed from international sanctions in return to limiting its nuclear program.

In February, Homayoun Haeri, the managing director of Iran Power Generation, Transmission and Distribution Management Company (TAVANIR), said ten percent of Iran’s electricity needs will be met by solar and wind power plants by 2022.

He added that Iranian solar and wind power plants will generate 12,000 MW of electricity annually.
