Baku, Azerbaijan, Dec. 6
By Khalid Kazimov - Trend:
Tehran is conducting discussions with Moscow and Damascus to make its list differentiating terrorist s in Syria from opposition groups, an Iranian official said.
Mohammad Irani, an official with Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said Dec. 6 that Tehran will announce its list to differentiate terrorists from Syrian opposition groups after coordination with Russia and Syria, ISNA news agency reported.
He called for a political solution to end crisis in Syria and said that terrorist groups have made the situation complicated.
He further said that to end the crisis, Syrian opposition groups should talk with the government at negotiation table, therefore it is necessary to differentiate terrorists from opposition groups.
During the latest round of the Syrian peace talks held in November in Vienna, the allies and opponents of President Bashar al-Assad agreed on a political process leading to elections in Syria.
Accusing Saudi Arabia and Jordan of making efforts to take advantages of the situation in Syria, Irani criticized the rival Saudi Arabia for inviting Syrian opposition groups to attend a recent session in Riyadh to unify them.
While several Western and regional governments urge Assad to step down, Tehran and Moscow express support for him terming his government as “legitimate”.
The next round of Syrian peace talks is expected to be held late December in New York.
