Iran on Sunday sympathized with the Republic of Azerbaijan after a fire incident in an oil platform in the Caspian Sea claimed the lives of a number of workers, IRNA reported.
'The Islamic Republic of Iran while condoling and sympathizing with the (Azerbaijan's) government, nation and bereaving families of the incident, expresses its readiness to the government of Azerbaijan to control the fire,' Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hossein Jaber Ansari said in a statement.
Azeri state energy company SOCAR said that 29 of its workers who went missing after the platform caught fire on Friday were feared dead, while one worker was confirmed dead and 33 rescued, out of the 62 who were on the offshore rig when the fire started.
