Embassy of the Untied States in Baku has extended its condolences over the tragedy at an offshore platform of the Gunashli field in the Caspian Sea.
“We are deeply saddened by reports of the deadly fire on SOCAR's oil platform in the Caspian,” said the embassy on its website Dec. 7. “Our thoughts and condolences are with the workers who have been affected and their families.”
A fire broke out on an offshore platform of SOCAR’s Gunashli field Dec. 4, after a strong storm damaged an underwater high-pressure gas pipeline.
As many as 33 people were rescued in a large-scale operation. Some 23 oil workers are listed as missing.
