Russia’s Ambassador in Ankara Andrei Karlov was once again summoned to the Foreign Ministry of Turkey on Dec. 7.

Turkish newspaper Haber 7 reported on its website that the ambassador was summoned over a soldier holding a Strela-2 surface-to-air missile system on the deck of Russia’s Caesar Kunikov warship as it was sailing through the Bosphorus Strait.

Earlier, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said the actions of the Russian serviceman on board the warship were a provocation.

Cavusoglu, who noted that the soldier was holding the Strela-2 during the entire time the Russian ship sailed through the strait, said the serviceman was ready to open fire.

The incident came days after Turkish Air Force shot down a Russian Su-24 bomber in Turkey’s airspace, followed by a significant deterioration of relations between the two countries.
