A lot should be left to the private sector to achieve constructive relations between Azerbaijan and Israel, according to Dan Stav, Israeli ambassador in Baku.

“In order to encourage business in each country, you need to create conducive environment,” he said speaking to Trend Dec. 9. “You need to have potential to promote investments, and you need to have an agreement of avoidance of double taxation, and number of other agreements.”

Stav added that work is already underway on some documents.

The ambassador said an agreement for promotion and protection of investments between the two countries will very soon enter into force.

He also said the other agreement between Azerbaijan and Israel is for the avoidance of double taxation, adding that it is currently needed to finalize some technical issues in order to bring it to signing.

“There are certain framework agreements we want to promote,” Stav further said noting that those agreements cover agriculture, transportation, education, science, technology, and other areas.

“I hope to complete them during my term here,” he added.

The ambassador also said exports from Israel to Azerbaijan could include a lot more, outlining high technologies as an example.

“My country is very advanced in software,” said Stav.

“It can be also pharmacy, all kinds of medicines,” he added.
