Turkmenistan invites IDB to participate in TAPI

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov has invited the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) to participate in Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) pipeline project, the message of the government said.

It is planned that the total length of the TAPI pipeline will be 1,735 kilometers. Some 200 kilometers will pass through the territory of Turkmenistan, 735 kilometers - Afghanistan, 800 kilometers - Pakistan up to Fazilka settlement on the border with India.

The annual capacity of the gas pipeline will be 33 billion cubic meters. The gas pipeline is to stretch from the largest Galkynysh gas field in Turkmenistan. The estimated cost of the project will be up to $10 billion.

The president made the invitation during the meeting with the IDB Group President Ahmad Mohamed Ali Al Madani, who arrived in the Turkmen capital to participate in celebrations on the occasion of the Neutrality Day of Turkmenistan.

The head of the IDB also said that the international legal status of neutrality has become an important factor in the successful solution of tasks of national economic development.

He said that from the economic and legal point of view, neutrality is an effective tool for attracting foreign investment in the development of major projects of state and international importance.

President of Turkmenistan thanked Ahmad Mohamed Ali Al Madani for financing of Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway main line construction project at the time.

Ahmad Mohamed Ali Al Madani told about the high interest of the IDB in participation in new large-scale investment projects.

At the same time, the head of the authoritative financial structure confirmed readiness to provide all possible assistance in the implementation of the TAPI ambitious project.
