The Islamic Republic of Iran does not take the new Saudi Arabian coalition against the IS (ISIL, ISIS, and Daesh) seriously, a political analyst believes.
“What is formed by Saudi Arabia, Iran does not take seriously, because we know Saudi Arabia is one of the founders of Daesh,” Ahmad Naqibzadeh, University of Tehran professor and political analyst, told Trend December 16.
Previously, Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir announced that a new Saudi-led Islamic anti-terrorist alliance will share information, train, equip and provide forces, if necessary, for the fight against the IS militants.
"Nothing is off the table," al-Jubeir said when asked whether the initiative could include troops on the ground.
A statement published by Saudi state news agency SPA said the new coalition would have a joint operations center based in Riyadh to "coordinate and support military operations".
Ahmad Naqibzadeh believes this Saudi Arabia initiative is no good for Iran, since "all Saudi Arabia does in the region is against Iran."
He further questioned the countries in the coalition, saying that the countries such as Syria and Iraq - the countries most affected by terrorism - are absent.
He further said that Saudi Arabia is not powerful enough to form such coalition in the first place.
