Political settlement is the only way of resolving the conflict in Syria, Russian President Vladimir Putin said, RIA Novosti reported.
He made the remarks during the annual press conference Dec.17.
In this regard, the plans of Russia and the US are almost identical, Putin added.
The president said Russia will continue the air operations and will seek contacts with the Syrian opposition combating the IS terrorist group (ISIS, ISIL or Daesh).
Further, Putin expressed support to the US initiative on working out a resolution of the UN Security Council on Syria and said that in general, it suits Russia.
Russian president expressed hope that the US initiative will also suit the Syrian authorities.
