Uzbekistan and Japan have discussed the bilateral relations, particularly, at the interparliamentary level, the Uzbek foreign ministry said Dec. 18.

Abdulaziz Kamilov, the Uzbek Foreign Minister, met with a delegation of the House of Representatives of the Japanese parliament, led by MP Kazunori Tanaka, the Director of the Department for International Relations of the Liberal Democratic Party.

The special attention was paid to the outcome of the Uzbek-Japanese dialogue at the highest level during Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s official visit to Tashkent in October 2015. The sides also discussed the implementation of the reached agreements.

The talks of the presidents of Uzbekistan and Japan have given a new impetus to the bilateral cooperation in almost all fields of cooperation and raised the strategic partnership between the two countries to a higher level.

Japanese Ambassador Fumihiko Kato also participated in the conversation.

Japan's parliamentary delegation is expected to hold meetings with the leadership of the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis (a lower house of the Uzbek parliament) and the government of the republic.

Japan is one of largest investors of Uzbekistan. The total amount of investments for the implementation of priority projects amounted to more than $2.3 billion, including through the yen state preferential loans - about $1.5 billion, commercial loans worth over $700 million.

The volume of Japanese investments in Uzbekistan’s economy exceeds $2.5 billion. Japan invests in the projects in the spheres of railway transport, oil and gas, energy, mining, telecommunications, textile industry and so on.

During the visit of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, a number of agreements was achieved on joint investment projects worth more than $8 billion in the modernization of transport and energy infrastructure, development and processing of mineral resources, motor car construction, telecommunications, oil, gas and chemical industries, the contribution of the Japanese side in which will be about $5 billion.

In addition, a memorandum of understanding was signed to establish the Uzbek-Japanese Youth Center of Innovations, as well as exchange notes on the project of modernization and provision of Navoi regional multisectoral hospital with modern medical equipment, the ministries of foreign affairs of Uzbekistan and Japan adopted a cooperation program for 2015-2017.
