Baku, Azerbaijan, Dec. 19

By Rufiz Hafizoglu – Trend:

Turkey and Israel can resume weapons supply and exchange of intelligence, believes Yaakov Kedmi, former head of Nativ, an Israeli liaison organization.

“Turkey, resuming relations with Israel, will strengthen the shaky international stance and its positions in the US and Europe,” Kedmi told Trend Dec. 19.

The expert also said economic orders and cessation of all the criminal and other cases related to the Freedom Flotilla would be beneficial for Israel.

In the past, Israel and Turkey were strategic partners, but moved away from each other as Turkey reoriented its foreign policy from the European integration to strengthening its position in the Arab and Muslim world.

The two countries’ relations worsened drastically after an incident involving the Freedom Flotilla, intercepted in 2010 by Israeli commandos on its way to break through a blockade around the Gaza Strip, resulting in the death of nine Turks taking part in the voyage.
