Baku, Azerbaijan, Dec.20
By Ilhama Isabalayeva – Trend:

The upcoming visit of Afghanistan’s President Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai to Azerbaijan will open a new page in bilateral relations, Azerbaijani MP Musa Gasimli told Trend Dec.20.

Earlier, Afghanistan’s embassy in Azerbaijan told Trend that Ahmadzai will pay a visit to Baku Dec.22.

Gasimli believes that there are a lot of issues to be discussed between the two countries.

He pointed out that Afghanistan and Azerbaijan have great prospects for cooperation in diplomatic, political, economic, military, cultural, humanitarian and other spheres.

Bilateral relations between the two countries have deep historic roots, according to the MP.
Azerbaijan played a significant role in Soviet-Afghan relations, Gasimli added.

Diplomatic relations with Afghanistan were established after Azerbaijan restored independence, said the MP.

He pointed out that Azerbaijan has actively participated in the anti-terrorist coalition and peacekeeping operations in this country since 2001.

The MP noted that Azerbaijan trains diplomatic staff for Afghanistan and renders other assistance to this country.
