The Majlisi Milli (upper house of the Tajik parliament) has supported the bill “On Initiator of Peace and Accord – Leader of the Nation” previously adopted by the lower house of the parliament, Avesta.Tj news website reported.
In accordance with the bill, the Order and the State Prize of the Leader of the Nation will be established in the country.
In addition, speeches of the leader of the nation must necessarily be taken into account after the end of his presidential term when deciding on the domestic and foreign policy issues of Tajikistan, according to the bill.
It was earlier reported that on Dec.9, MPs of Tajikistan’s lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament unanimously voted for endorsement of the bill “On Initiator of Peace and Accord – Leader of the Nation” designating the incumbent Tajik President Emomali Rahmon the “leader of the nation.”
The law determines powers of the leader, gives him immunity, and stipulates that he will be provided with transport, dwelling and social benefits after leaving the presidency.
The law gives Rahmon the right to appeal to the nation and participate in important government events and address them after leaving the presidency.
The law also envisages the creation of an archive, library and museum of the leader of the nation.
