By Fatih Karimov- Trend:

Iran's army ground forces and police will hold anti-terrorism military exercises, Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan, commander of the Iranian army's ground forces said.

The drill is scheduled to be held next month, near the city of Qom, in central Iran, Pourdastan said, Iran’s Tasnim news agency reported Dec. 21.

The military exercise is aimed at preparedness for foiling terrorist and “Takfiri” threats, he said, adding it will include also hostage release exercises.

Iranian officials refer to extremist Sunni armed groups in Syria and Iraq, including the IS terrorist group (ISIS, ISIL or Daesh) as “Takfiri.”

“In this exercise we will use the latest hostage rescue techniques,” Pourdastan said.

Last month, Iran’s Intelligence Minister Mahmoud Alavi said the recent terrorist attacks in France and Lebanon are also alerts to the Islamic Republic, which should take action to exercise more vigilance.

A series of coordinated armed attacks and explosions hit Paris on November 13, killing 130 people and injuring some 350 others. On November 12, another 44 people were killed and nearly 240 more sustained injuries when two large explosions rocked a security post in Hussaineya Street in the crowded Borj al-Barajneh neighborhood in a southern suburb of Beirut.
