The European Tobacco Baku did not increase the wholesale prices on its products, the company told Trend Dec. 21.
“An increase in the cigarette prices in the shops is an initiative of their owners,” the company said.
"Of course, if tobacco products are purchased abroad in dollars and euros, the rate change will affect the prices,” the statement said. “However, our company is engaged in production. We did not change any invoice."
Some shops stopped selling cigarettes.
The Central Bank of Azerbaijan switched to the floating rate of the national currency (manat) from Dec.21, 2015.
