The electricity networks of Iran, Russia, Georgia and Armenia will be synchronized by 2019.
The decision was made in a quadlateral meeting between representatives of the countries in the field of exchanging electrical energy in Yerevan Dec. 23, Iran’s ISNA news agency reported.
Linking Iran-Armenia electricity network is the most important prerequisite for the project, which will be followed by the two countries’ officials, according to the report.
Iran’s energy minister, Hamid Chitchian, who is in Armenia for the 13th meeting of Iran-Armenia joint economic commission participated in the quadlateral meeting.
The four parties signed a document, which will raise the level of mutual energy supplies, energy efficiency systems, security and reliability.
The memorandum envisages establishing a coordination council and a regional dispatch centre to help the four countries react faster and more efficiently to crisis and emergency situations.
The action will also allow parties to develop multi-national electricity transit and trade.
Iran and Armenia are also expected to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for cooperation on various fields including energy, trade and environment as well as cultural and social issues at the end of their 13th economic commission meeting.
