Armenia breaks ceasefire with Azerbaijan 110 times

Armenian armed forces have broken the ceasefire with Azerbaijan 110 times by using heavy machine guns in various parts of the contact line between Azerbaijani and Armenian armies in the last 24 hours, Azerbaijani defense ministry told Trend Dec.28.

Azerbaijani positions located in the village of Gizilhajili of Gazakh district, underwent fire from the positions located in the village of Berkaber of Armenia’s Ijevan district, Mosesgeh of Berd and on the nameless heights of Armenia’s Krasnoselskiy district.

Azerbaijani positions also took fire from the positions located near the villages of Talish, Gulustan of Goranboy district, Chileburt, Yarimja, Goyarkh, Chayli of Terter district, Shikhlar, Novruzlu, Javahirli, Kengerli, Sarijali, Shuraabad, Yusifjanli, Nemirli of Aghdam, Kuropatkino of Khojavend, Garakhanbeyli, Gorgan, Horadiz, Ashagi Seyidahmadli, Ashagi Abdurrahmanli of Fizuli and Mehdili of Jabrayil district.

Azerbaijani armed forces carried out 110 strikes on enemy positions.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the UN Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
