The ministry of emergency situations of Azerbaijan and SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic) decided to ensure participation of family members of the oil workers missing as a result of a fire on an offshore platform No.10 on the country’s Guneshli oil field in their search, the message of SOCAR said Dec.28.
A fire broke out on the offshore platform Dec. 4, as a strong storm damaged an underwater high-pressure gas pipeline. As many as 33 people were rescued in an ensuing large-scale operation. The bodies of eight killed were retrieved, while 22 oil workers are still listed as missing.
“Taking into account desire of the family members of the missing oil workers, a decision was made to ensure their participation in the search using helicopters,” the message said. “Starting from December 29, one family member of each missing oil worker will join the search teams.”
