By Maksim Tsurkov – Trend:
Azerbaijani state oil company takes into account Georgia’s ever-growing needs for natural gas, head of SOCAR Energy Georgia (subsidiary of SOCAR in Georgia) Mahir Mammadov told in an exclusive interview Trend Jan.5.
The possible delivery of Iranian gas to Georgia will not affect the implementation of SOCAR’s commitments, he said.
“On the causes of the negotiations [between Georgia and Iran] is better to ask the Georgian side. As for SOCAR, we have irrevocable contractual obligations, which are carried out and will be carried out in full,” said Mammadov.
He noted that there is no need to supply additional volumes of gas to Georgia.
“Demand of Georgian market for natural gas increases by only 8-10 percent every year, and SOCAR considers this growth,” said Mammadov. “In case of extra gas needs in the commercial market, Azerbaijan can supply these volumes, as today it delivers and provides the commercial market too.”
Before, Georgian Energy Ministry made a statement confirming the fact about negotiations with Iran on gas supplies.
