As a slightly terrifying New Years gift to himself, Mark Zuckerberg has committed to building a robot butler, according to Metro News.
The artificially intelligent assistant would greet his friends, check on his baby, run his home appliances and help him out with work.
‘You can think of it kind of like JARVIS in Iron Man,’ he wrote, referring to Tony Stark’s AI butler – ‘Just A Rather Very Intelligent System’ – in the Marvel franchise.
The Facebook founder said he would use existing technology to get the project started, before teaching the robot to understand his voice.
His creation will then be given control of everything in his home – music, lights and temperature, for example.
But it will also help out with his social life – it will be taught to recognise human faces, so it can let Zuckerberg’s friends in when they ring the doorbell.
And he’s even going to teach the robot to keep an eye on his young baby daughter, Max.
The project is one of Zuckerberg’s personal challenges which he sets himself every new year. Previous challenges have included learning Mandarin, and committing to reading two books a month.
‘This should be a fun intellectual challenge to code this for myself,’ he said. ‘I’m looking forward to sharing what I learn over the course of the year.’
