There have been a lot of phone calls between Iran and the US to coordinate the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA, aka the nuclear deal), said Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.
The JCPOA – a landmark nuclear deal reached July 14, 2015 between Iran and the P5+1 (the US, the UK, France, Russia, China, and Germany), is expected to be implemented by January’s end. It will curb Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for the removal of the earlier imposed economic sanctions on the country.
“Iran and the US will have the most influential roles in the JCPOA implementation. That is why in recent days a lot of phone calls and emails have been exchanged between me and [US Secretary of State John] Kerry, as well as [Atomic Energy Organization of Iran Chief Ali Akbar] Salehi and [US Energy Secretary Earnest] Moniz,” Fars news agency quoted Zarif as saying Jan. 6.
“Our colleagues and the P5+1 will hold some meetings in Europe in the coming days to coordinate things,” added Zarif. “Hence, we talked in details with [EU foreign policy chief Federica] Mogherini.”
