President Hassan Rouhani said on Wednesday that Iran has never taken any action against any regional state and has always favored logic and rationality as well as enhancement of cooperation and securing the Islamic world and regional countries' interests, Irna reported Jan. 6.
The president made the remarks in a meeting with the Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim Jafari.
He expressed pleasure with success of the Iraqi nation, government and army in the fight against terrorists in Iraq.
'Iranian nation and government will be pleased more to see more security and friendship in Iraq,' Rouhani said.
Consolidation of national unity, territorial integrity and economic development of Iraq as the neighboring and friendly country is of significance for Iran, he said.
The president stressed the need for all-out development of ties between the two nations.
Describing recent moves by Saudi Arabia and execution of Shia cleric Sheikh Nimr as provocative in the region, Rouhani said that Iran's foreign policy is based on forming good ties with neighbors and strengthening regional stability and cooperation.
'Circumstances under which we need unity in the fight against terrorism more than ever, taking irrational and provocative decisions will certainly help escalate tensions and harm all regional states,' he said.
Iran is willing to narrow the gap in the Islamic world and boost solidarity and unity among the Muslims, the president said.
Jafari, for his part, stressed the need for development of bilateral ties, calling for the two countries' efforts to further bolster mutual cooperation in the region and world.
Contending that Iran's policies have always associated with prudence and wisdom, he admired Iran's powerful and brave diplomacy.
Any tension and dispute among regional states will damage the Muslims' solidarity and unity, he said, hoping that regional countries' officials will make efforts to strengthen ties and de-escalate.
Crises and disputes as well as provocative measures will create fundamental problems to the entire region, Iraqi foreign minister said.
'We favor peace and security in all regional states and we should not allow the enemies of Islam to create further tensions to serve their objectives.'
