Tehran, Iran, January 10
By Mehdi Sepahvand –- Trend:
Two projects for reducing greenhouse gases in Iran registered in the UN have been grounded due to management changes, Behzad Mousavi, an official with Iran’s Industrial Renovation Company, said, ISNA news agency reported January 10.
Industrial units in Iran are old-fashioned and energy-consuming, leading to a great rate of greenhouse gas production.
Mousavi said that according to a United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) arrangement called the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), €100,000 was going to be given as grant to companies stated in the two projects for a period of 10 years.
The official said Khuzestan Amir Kabir Sugarcane company and the Mandfield project with Mashhad Municipality are among the projects that were registered to receive the grant.
Within the Kyoto Protocol, the CDM has paid $4.9 billion to industrial units in China so far.
