Iran sanctions removal soon but no date set: EU's Mogherini

Date: 12 January 2016 00:42

The European Union foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini says no firm timeframe has been set yet for the removal of sanctions against Iran but the move could come soon, Press TV reported.

"There is no set date yet. The date is going to be related to the full implementation of all the steps that need to be taken," Mogherini told reporters on Monday after a meeting with Czech Foreign Minister Lubomir Zaoralek in Prague.

She said she expects that the removal of the sanctions “could come rather soon” and emphasized that the sides are fulfilling their commitments "well."

Iran and the P5+1 group of countries - the United States, Britain, France, China, and Russia plus Germany - finalized the text of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in the Austrian capital, Vienna, on July 14, 2015.

Under the JCPOA, limits are put on Iran’s nuclear activities in exchange for, among other things, the removal of all nuclear-related economic and financial bans against the Islamic Republic.

Iran sanctions removal in few days: Rouhani

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said on Monday that “cruel” sanctions against Iran will be abolished in days.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony of phases 15 and 16 of South Pars gas field in Asaluyeh, southern Iran, Rouhani added that the coming Iranian calendar year, which begins on March 20, will be one of “economic prosperity.”

He emphasized that the "sanctions plot" hatched against the Islamic Republic cannot undermine the Iranian nation’s determination against major powers.
