The granddaughter of Pablo Picasso auctioned more than 180 drawings and sculptures of the masters that were stored in his Studio and never before presented to the public. Marina Picasso’s plans to help out at the auction, organized by auction house Sotheby’s for 10 million pounds (14.5 million dollars).
Only for sale will be prepared approximately 70 terracotta and ceramic sculptures and drawings by 106, which, according to The Telegraph, will allow to fully appreciate the development of Picasso as an artist. The cost of lots varies in the range of 4 to 180 thousand pounds.
65-year-old Marina Picasso is the daughter of the eldest son of the artist. She inherited about 10 thousand items in 1975. In June, she has already sold 126 ceramic works at auction, receiving 12.3 million pounds.
Last week she admitted in comments to The Wall Street Journal: «It’s part of my history, and I want those things to be appreciated. And the prices on the auctions now good».
“This remarkable collection allows you to get a intimate glimpse of the artist’s work as if we were standing over the shoulder of Picasso, observing the creative process, and he revealed himself as an artist again and again,” says Helena Newman, responsible for the direction of modern art at the auction house.
The auction will be held in London on 5 February.
