Second Secretary, Vice Consul of the British Embassy in Baku James Holder has said Chevening network can help build Azerbaijani-UK relations for the coming decades.
In an interview with AZERTAC, Mr Holder commented on the establishment of Chevening Alumni Association in Azerbaijan. “We also now have Chevening network here in Azerbaijan. So that gives another support network, another chance to people to share ideas and work with people who have similar interests and want to work in similar businesses or similar areas of government in the long run. And we also hope that link with the UK will stay with people for a long time as well, which can help build Azerbaijani-UK relations for the coming decades.”
He hailed enthusiasm of Azerbaijani applicants for Chevening Scholarships. “The applicants that we had this year were very strong. The thing that really struck me was just how enthusiastic people were, how ambitious the applicants were as well. So these people really knew what they were going to the UK for, why they want to study there and which universities they want to go to and why they were going to get something out of the courses.” “So they were particularly ambitious and enthusiastic about what it is they are going to get from the UK education, about what they are going to bring back to Azerbaijan at the end of it, what they are going to gain from the UK, what those top class universities are going to bring to their career, to Azerbaijan at the end of it. And I think we had very good candidates,” Mr Holder added.
