Russia’s Energy Minister Alexander Novak plans to meet OPEC representatives and European Commission Vice-President for Energy Union Maros Sefcovic in Istanbul, according to TASS.
The World Energy Congress will be held in Istanbul on October 9-13.
"Yes, we’ll meet with OPEC Secretary General (Mohammad) Barkindo and with other ministers (of OPEC member-states - TASS) in Istanbul. Currently, time schedules and agreements on meetings are being clarified. All issues will be discussed. Obviously, this is one of the key topics (the Algiers decisions - TASS), we’ll also delve into the issue during the talks with our colleagues and other ministers," Novak said.
When asked about the meeting with Sefcovic, the Minister said that "the date has not been agreed on yet, but the meeting may be held in Istanbul."
Earlier Novak said that the agreed tentative date for the meeting with Sefcovic in Moscow is October 14. The energy dialogue between Russia and the European Union (EU) and infrastructure for Russia’s gas supplies to Europe are expected to be the main issues on the top of the agenda.
Venezuelan Oil Minister Eulogio Del Pino said earlier that Russia would join the talks between ministers of OPEC member-states in Istanbul. According to Bloomberg news agency, the meeting will be attended by ministers of Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Gabon, Qatar and UAE as well as Russia’s Energy Minister.
Del Pino said that the meeting would focus on the discussion of participation of non-OPEC countries in implementation of the agreement on crude production cap reached by OPEC members.
Earlier Reuters reported with reference to Algerian Energy Minister Noureddine Bouterfa that the meeting of representatives of OPEC member-states and non-OPEC members would be held in Istanbul on October 8-13.
On September 28, OPEC member-nations reached an agreement to limit the average daily oil production to 32.5-33 mln barrels at the informal meeting within the International Energy Forum in Algiers.
