Samsung Galaxy S7 Update Changing Default Resolution To FHD Instead Of QHD

Samsung Galaxy S7 Update Changing Default Resolution To FHD Instead Of QHD

Date: 25 November 2016 15:34

Likewise many other flagships, the Galaxy S7 supports a QHD resolution (1440 x 2560), but while there are users who prefer crisp images, others think that a higher resolution places a burden on the battery. Samsung wants to reconcile both groups and this is why it introduced a new option in the Galaxy S7’s settings, allowing users to select their favourite resolution: HD (720 x 1280), FHD (1280 x 1920), or QHD (1440 x 2560).

Samsung has released the Android 7.0 Nougat update for its Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, but currently, only users from the US, UK, South Korea and China are allowed to take part of the Galaxy Beta Program. The company hasn’t set a release date for the new operating system, but most likely, the beta testing will be over until the end of the year.

Users who were selected by Samsung for the Android 7.0 Nougat beta test have noticed that the display looks different, as its resolution has been decreased from QHD (2560×1440 pixels) to FullHD (1920×1080 pixels) by default. We can’t guarantee that Samsung will decide to keep this default resolution for the final release or if this change will be available only in some regions, but it will be great if users will have the freedom to choose which resolution they want on their screens.

On the other hand, a number of participants have complained that Samsung Gear VR is not compatible with Android 7.0 Nougat Beta program, as they’ve encountered a “network error” when trying to set up the Gear VR headset. It seems that currently, the Oculus app is compatible only with Android Marshmallow and this issue could be solved with a new update, but it will take time until this will happen. Hopefully, the application will be update before Android Nougat 7.0 will come out for the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge.
