Future Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus has helped Palmeiras win its first Brazilian championship title in 22 years after a 1-0 home victory over Chapecoense on Sunday.

According to Mail, Defender Fabiano scored the only goal on 26 minutes from the edge of the box to give the title to the Sao Paulo-based club with one game left.

Palmeiras is now the only club to hold nine Brazilian championship titles, one ahead of Santos. Relegated twice to the second division after their last title, Palmeiras' recovery was financed by millionaire club president Paulo Nobre.

The stars of the team include teenage Jesus - Palmeiras' top scorer in the tournament with 12 goals - and veteran midfielder Ze Roberto.

'That's what's important and that is what is in my head. Whatever I can do to adapt as soon as possible I will do.

'I am dying to get over there and help Manchester as much as I can.'
