6th meeting of Turkic Council`s economy ministers held in Baku

The sixth meeting of economy ministers of the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States (Turkic Council) was held in Baku.

The meeting was attended by more than 50 representatives from Azerbaijan, Turkey, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.

Addressing the event, Minister of Economy Shahin Mustafayev said Azerbaijan’s trade turnover with the countries of the Turkic Council amounted to $1.9 billion in January-October 2016. The Minister also said Azerbaijan invested $8 billion in the Turkish economy. “In turn, Turkey invested $10 billion in Azerbaijan’s economy,” he said.

Shahin Mustafayev highlighted successfully developing economic cooperation among the Turkic-speaking countries. “Azerbaijan has well-developed mutual investments with Turkey and Kazakhstan. Cooperation is discussed within the joint intergovernmental commissions, Azerbaijan-Turkey High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council,” he added.

Minister of Economic Affairs of Turkey Nihat Zeybekci said this meeting was another example of friendship and cooperation among Turkic-speaking countries. The Minister informed the participants about the opportunities to expand existing trade, economic ties among the member countries. He also said the meeting would play an important role in development of economic cooperation.

Vice Minister of National Economy of Kazakhstan Aydar Arifkhanov said his country supported the activity of the Council and stressed the importance of the Council in expanding relations among these countries.

The vice minister also provided an insight into business and investment opportunities in Kazakhstan, as well as its transport and transit potential. “Turkic Council is a fruitful platform for development of cooperation,” he added.

Secretary General of the Turkic Council Ramil Hasanov highlighted the activity of the Organization. He also suggested the proposals for deepening cooperaytion in economic field.

During the meeting, a report of the working group was presented, as well as the opportunities to expand economic cooperation among Turkic states were discussed.

The Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States (Turkic Council) was established in 2009 as an international intergovernmental organization, with the overarching aim of promoting comprehensive cooperation among Turkic Speaking States.
