It was a golden night for British television in Los Angeles, as The Crown and The Night Manager both swept several of the top awards at the Golden Globes, according to Telegraph.

Claire Foy was named best actress in a television drama for her portrayal of the Queen in the acclaimed Netflix series, The Crown, which also won best television series, drama.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson, the British actor, took a surprise victory in the best supporting actor in a film category for his performance in Tom Ford's Nocturnal Animals.

The big film winner of the night was La La Land, which won all of the seven categories for which it was nominated, including acting Golden Globes for Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone.

Foy paid tribute to the Queen: "I really wouldn't be here if it wasn't for some extraordinary women, one is Queen Elizabeth II.

"She has been at the centre of the world the past 63 years and I think the world could do with a few more women at the centre of it if you ask me."

The ceremony honours both film and television makers, with nominations for movies like La La Land and Manchester by the Sea and TV series like The Night Manager.
