Turkey's energy imports decreased by 5.1 percent to $2.85 billion in December from $3 billion year-on-year, according to Turkish Statistical Institute's (Turkstat) data Tuesday.

The data shows that Turkey's imports in December 2016 totaled $18.4 billion, out of which energy accounted for nearly 15.5 percent.

Additionally, the country's crude oil imports showed a 4.3 percent decrease in December compared to the same period in 2015.

Turkey imported approximately 2.5 million tonnes of crude oil in December 2016, while the figure was nearly 2.61 million tonnes for the same period in 2015. Turkey's crude imports in 2016 reached 24.9 million tonnes.
