The largest Australian mobile operator Telstra has announced the launch of the world’s first LTE-a network capable of transmitting data at speeds up to 1,000 Mbps. Initially it was planned that the launch was to take place before the end of last year, but unforeseen delays. However, now the network works and shows the expected results. The first device that supports that speed a portable 4G router Netgear Nighthawk M1. It uses Gigabit modem Qualcomm X16 – similar set in a new mobile Snapdragon processor 835. Netgear Nighthawk M1 supports connection of up to 20 devices through Wi-Fi 802.11 ac and built-in battery lasts for 24 hours.
In creating the Gigabit LTE network, Telstra has helped the company Ericsson, while Qualcomm and Netgear have collaborated to create the moment of launch of the finished commercial device that is able to work at that speed.
During the test demonstrate the capabilities of the Telstra network was recorded download speeds of around 900 Mbps. this performance in real conditions can vary depending on different factors. As for upload speed, then in theory it can reach 150 Mbps. it is Worth noting that Telstra in 2015 became the first operator to launch a LTE network with speeds up to 600 Mbps.
Peter Carson, Director of marketing for Qualcomm, said that Gigabit LTE-networks are the basis for future networks of the fifth generation.
