Baku. Mubariz Aslanov – APA. Chairman of the Caucasian Muslim Office (CMO) Sheikh-ul-Islam Haji Allahshukur Pashazade, Archbishop of Baku and Azerbaijan Eparchy Alexander, head of Baku Mountain Jews religious community Milikh Yevdayev and head of European Jews Community Gennadi Zelmanovich have appealed to the world’s religious leaders, parliaments and international organizations in connection with the anniversary of March 31 – the Day of Genocide of Azerbaijanis.

The statement says that Armenian nationalists have been conducting a policy of genocide and aggression against the people of Azerbaijan for more than 200 years:

“The main purpose of this policy is to drive out the Azerbaijanis from their native lands and establish "Great Armenia" invented by the Armenian historians and ideologists.  Historical facts prove that the Azerbaijani lands, covering 114 000 sq. km on the maps of the last century, was reduced to 86.600 sq. km as a result of the Armenian occupation and the forced expulsion of local people. 20 percent of Azerbaijani territories were occupied following the last invasion of Karabakh and surrounding districts. Azerbaijan have been divided into two parts. In 1905-1918, the Armenians committed massacre against the Azerbaijanis in Baku, Nakhchivan, Karabakh, Shamakhi, Guba and other places, killing tens of thousands of civilians and destructing historical-cultural monuments and mosques. The Zangazur district of Azerbaijan was given to an illegally created state, Armenia, without any reason. Nagorno-Karabakh was granted an autonomous status. From 1948 to 1953, the Azerbaijanis living in Armenia were forced to flee their native lands, which gave birth to the modern-day Armenian Republic. In the late 1980s, after Heydar Aliyev, the Azerbaijani people’s prominent statesman, was alienated by the USSR leadership, over 250,000 Azerbaijanis were forced out of their homes in Armenia. 20 percent of Azerbaijani lands were again invaded by the Armenians. Acts of vandalism were widely carried out in the occupied lands. Following prominent leader Heydar Aliyev’s second return to power in Azerbaijan, these tragedies were presented to the international community. Under the decree signed by Heydar Aliyev in 1998, March 31 began to be formally marked as a day of genocide. The UN Security Council adopted 4 resolutions on occupied territories of Azerbaijan, the resolutions that are still being ignored by Armenia. As representatives of religious confessions, we call on you to give political-judicial assessment to all these crimes of genocide the Armenian invaders committed against the Azerbaijani people. May Allah, the Most High, help us all be able to distinguish between the right and wrong and maintain justice!”
