Baku – APA. Uzbekistan’s incumbent President Islam Karimov has won the country’s presidential election, scoring 90.39% of the vote, head of the Uzbek Central Election Commission (CEC) Mirza-Ulugbek Abdusalomov told a briefing on Monday, APA reported citing TASS.
According to him, as many as 17.2 million people cast their ballots for Karimov.
Note that, 85 percent of 20 million registered voters in Uzbekistan participated in the election. Those competing with the incumbent President Islam Karimov are Khatamjan Ketmanov of the People's Democratic Party, Nariman Umarov of the "Adolat" (Justice) Social Democratic Party and Akmal Saidov of the National Revival Democratic Party.
