Baku, April 21 AZERTAC
FAO this week announced the appointment of Mustafa Imir, a Turkish national and experienced senior official with the Organization, as its representative in Azerbaijan.
For the past four years, Imir has served as FAO Representative in Indonesia. Before joining FAO in 2011, he worked with the Turkish Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, where he focused on international relations, particularly with the European Union.
Holding a doctoral degree in veterinary medicine, Imir has broad knowledge in agriculture and veterinary sciences. He was actively involved in the Doha Round of the World Trade Organization’s trade negotiations on the field of agriculture.
“I look forward to applying my experience and skills in Azerbaijan,” said Imir, “a country of great accomplishment and potential in the areas of food and agriculture and natural resources.”
Azerbaijan became a Member Country of FAO in 1995, and is currently benefiting from FAO’s technical assistance in many areas, such as organic agriculture, agriculture marketing, locust management, food security, seed sector development, improved livelihoods for rural populations, animal health, and cattle breeding – the last two being the new FAO Representative’s main field of specialization.
