The Armenian diaspora in the city of Ukhta, the Komi Republic, has made a request to the city council over the republic-wide marking of the 100th anniversary of the so-called Armenian genocide, the Azerbaijan Society in the Komi Republic told APA.
However, the Armenian proposal was officially turned down after the intervention of some Azerbaijani activists, including Hasan Gasimov, who is a member of the Ukhta city council and the chairman of the Azerbaijan Society that has been operating in Komi for more than 15 years.
According to Gasimov, this type of events usually aims to cause discord among the peoples living in Komi.
