Baku, Azerbaijan, Apr. 24
By Rufiz Hafizoglu – Trend:
The US didn’t sacrifice relations with Turkey for the sake of the so-called Armenian genocide, Mustafa Kabakci, the MP from Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development Party, told Trend Apr. 24.
He said the US authorities understand well that historical events shouldn’t be assessed in parliaments, and not politicians, but historians must study the historical events.
Kabakci recalled that Turkey has repeatedly offered to open archives to study the 1915 events, but Armenia has been preventing this in every way.
“There was no “Armenian genocide” in Turkey’s history,” said Kabakci.
Earlier, Turkey’s president said he didn’t expect the US president to use the word “genocide” in relation to the 1915 events.
Armenia and the Armenian lobby claim that Turkey's predecessor, the Ottoman Empire allegedly carried out ”genocide” against the Armenians living in Anatolia in 1915. Turkey in turn has always denied "the genocide" took place.
While strengthening the efforts to promote the "genocide" in the world, Armenians have achieved its recognition by the parliaments of some countries.
