Baku. Malahat Najafova – APA. Azerbaijan is a young country and an ally of ours at a time Armenia is a puppet of Russia in the South Caucasus,” Senator Nathalie Goulet, the chairwoman of the France-Caucasus Friendship Group at the Senate, said in her article published by the Huffington Post.
In her remarks on the European Games, which Azerbaijan will host in June, the senator said “the European Games is really an opportunity for those who want to paint a negative picture of Azerbaijan to see the truth”.
“Azerbaijan has, at the same time, played a key role in the war against Nazism. The 70th centenary of World War II has recently been marked. Azerbaijan joined the war with a massive contingent of fighters. But the country has been suffering for about two decades from the occupation of 20 percent of its territory. Armenia invaded Azerbaijan’s Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts where international law is violated. France announced once again last week that it recognizes the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan,” she stressed.
Ms Nathalie Goulet also added that Azerbaijan is our strategic partner in security and the fight against terrorism, but they show a negative attitude toward this partner of ours.
“Along with being a member of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Azerbaijan is also preserving its diplomatic and economic ties with Israel and trying to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in accordance with European values. Our jealous society is unable to make subjective statements. Of course, Azerbaijan achieved progress toward democracy, but is it lone in the region? Is it sole in the world that surrounds us? What is the cause of so much hatred? Why do journalists consider that they can criticize without any explanation or argument?,” she added.
The French senator declared himself a friend of Azerbaijan.
“Whoever is a friend of Azerbaijan, and then it means that he or she is purchased? It is not so. I am a friend of this country. I know the people here. I have worked with people displaced from their lands as a result of the Armenian occupation. These hundreds of thousands of people, who are far from the charming life of Baku, support the president’s policy of territorial integrity,” she noted.
