Baku 2015 European Games are being held at the Olympic level, said Ukraine’s head swimming coach, Andriy Serdinov.

He made the remarks in an interview posted on the website of Ukraine’s Swimming Federation.

Serdinov said the Baku 2015 opening ceremony, as well as the organization of events, fully meets the Olympic standards.

“Here all the athletes live in the Olympic village, and this allows the representatives of various countries to meet each other, to talk to each other,” said Serdinov.

He also said the European Games are of great importance for young athletes.

“The young athletes, taking part in them [the Games], can feel the atmosphere of international competition, the atmosphere of the Olympics,” said Serdinov.

The European Games that kicked off in Baku June 12, will last till June 28. There is a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports.

More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe came to Baku to represent their nations over 17 days of competition. Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
