Armenia continues violating ceasefire with Azerbaijan

Over the past 24 hours, the Armenian military 94 times violated ceasefire on various parts of the contact line between Azerbaijani and Armenian troops, said Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry on June 21.

Armenian armed forces stationed in the Berkaber village of Ijevan district and the Aygepar village the Berd district of Armenia opened fire on the positions of Azerbaijani troops in the Gizilhajili village of Gazakh district and the Alibeyli village of Tovuz district.

Azerbaijani positions on nameless heights in the Gadabay district were fired at from nameless heights in the Krasnoselsk district of Armenia.

Azerbaijani military was also fired at from Armenians stationed near the Talish, Tapgaragoyunlu villages of the Goranboy district, Goyarkh village of the Terter district, the Shuraabad, Shirvanli, Garagashli, Sarijali, Javahirli, Shikhlar, Marzili villages of the Aghdam district, the Kuropatkino village of the Khojavand district, the Garakhanbeyli, Horadiz, Gorgan, Ashagi Seyidahmadli villages of the Fizuli district, the Mehdili village of the Jabrail district.

Armenians were also firing from nameless heights in the Goy-Gol, Goranboy, Khojavand, Fuzuli and Jabrail districts.

The opposing side was silenced with return fire.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations. Armenia has not yet implemented the UN Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
