By Fatih Karimov – Trend: The nuclear deal with world powers stopped oppression against the Iranian nation, said Chairman of the Expediency Council of Iran Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani.

It can be understood from those who opposed the deal that a great job has been done to reclaim rights of the Iranian nation and stop oppression against them by international sanctions, Iran’s IRNA news agency quoted Rafsanjani as saying August 7.

He referred to the anger of Israel about the nuclear deal as a sign of importance of the deal, saying that Iran has always said that making atomic bombs is forbidden based on Islamic rules.

“However, they can investigate based on the Additional Protocol that we are not moving toward making atomic bombs. Of course, the leader of the Islamic Republic has repeated the same sentence numerous times.”

Iran broke the taboo of negotiating with the U.S. during the nuclear talks, Rafsanjani said on August 4.

“The nuclear talks led to a number of developments. One of the developments was the fact that Iran broke the taboo of negotiating with the US, but opponents are still struggling to prevent it,” he added.

Rafsanjani said that the agreement on lifting the sanctions imposed on Iran over its nuclear program would be a “giant step” forward after decades of hostility by the United States.

He also said US hostility to Iran had long been the main problem.

“Before the [1979] revolution the US was the main supporter of the Shah’s regime and after the revolution, in the imposed war [with Iraq] it was against us too. Now in the nuclear talks, if we see a different US, it will have a positive impact on the Iranian public.” It is “not impossible” that an American embassy could reopen in Tehran.”
