Tehran, Iran, August 9

By Mehdi Sepahvand – Trend:

Iranian Economy Minister Ali Tayyeb Nia has been put on the verge of impeachment after he failed to convince members of the Parliament.

Tayyeb Nia failed to convince MPs during a questioning session in the Parliament, Nasim news agency reported August 9.

This was the third time Tayyeb Nia was put to questioning by the MPs and failed at providing satisfactory explanations.

According to Iranian law, failing three times to answer lawmakers’ questions paves to way for impeachment.

During the parliament session, Tayyeb Nia was asked by MP Mehrdad Bazrpash, who posed two questions.

The first question was about implementing a law on opening an LC banking account. The second question required the latest report on Iran’s tax revenue of two years ago.

Bazrpash was not satisfied with Tayyeb Nia’s answers and asked other MPs to cast votes.

80 MPs voted for the minister while 105 MPs voted against him and 10 other abstained.

The previous time Tayyeb Nia failed to convince the MPs was in February, when he was questioned about the falling trend of the stock market’s index.
