Baku, Azerbaijan, Dec. 9

By Rufiz Hafizoglu – Trend:

When the EU and US were imposing sanctions on Russia, Turkey made a friendly gesture and didn’t join these sanctions, spokesman for the administration of the president of Turkey Ibrahim Kalin said, the Turkish TRT Haber TV channel reported Dec.9.

Kalin believes that Russia should think about this.

He said that Turkey seeks to normalize relations with Russia.

“Ankara hopes that Russia and Turkey will be able to resolve the current crisis in relations through dialogue,” said Kalin.

Relations between Russia and the West have deteriorated over the situation in Ukraine. At the end of July 2014, the EU and the United States moved from sanctions against certain individuals and companies to measures against whole sectors of the Russian economy. In response, Russia restricted the import of food products from countries which have imposed sanctions against it.

Turkish Air Forces shot down Russian jet “SU-24” in its airspace Nov.24. After that relations between the two countries have deteriorated significantly.

Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlut Cavushoglu previously called the Russian Federation to a political dialogue for resolving the crisis between the two countries.

Turkey may lose for more than nine billion dollars by the economic sanctions of Russia, Deputy PM Mehmet Simsek said earlier.
